Let's all thank Algore for inventing online porn and travel booking!!

What's your greatest memory of internet history? Was it the first time you heard "you've got mail"? Or the first time you signed up for an email address (some stupid name, I'm bet). Or the first time you entered an AOL chat room?

First movie. It took 18 hours on a dial up connection and was poor quality (240p and low bitrate), but I did it!

I liked when Algore used the internets to prove the existence of Manbearpig...

I'm glad he's moved on to bigger and better things though.

Ah, the early days of the interwebz... who doesn't remember when the first page of every internet search was connected to porn websites? and all those sex popups that crashed the desktops?

Well... my worst memory was having to disconnect from the interwebs in order call someone.

Um...no! But I'll thank Vint Cerf or Robert Kahn

We used a dial up mail connection at work where you had to connect, then type in all the information. If we were working on a long report it was notorious for breaking the connection or worse adding/losing characters on the send transmission. I once sent a Shift report that became the *kitten* report. Got teased about that for a long time!

I'm missing the hilarity. Maybe because I'm not Murican.

Is this hilarious because Al Gore said something he didn't say? Or even nearly say...Or even come close to saying? Is that why this thread is hilarious?

Having to set the character width right on the telnet software to access direct dial BBSs legibly. Loong time ago.

Mid 94 - bulletin boards and compuserve.
More FTP/gopher sites than websites when I did venture on to "the internet" I'd say.
