I'M GONNA LIVE FOREVER!

Okay, maybe not "forever", but I come from a long line of centenials. We are those dried up sardines you see counting pennies in checkout. The ones that will stop traffic to slowly pick up a found, scratched off lottery ticket and recheck it then and there. The ones that are oblivious to the meaning and purpose of a crosswalk. Yep, that's my family. It's in our blood. We are born to annoy, sabatoge and make everyones life a little worse than ours, we feed off of it.
Anyways, I am the black sheep. I am a loving caring mom of 2. I help centenials put bags in their car. I throw a buck or two if a mom is short on change. People have done it for me, I will do it for others. I have always lived a Pay It Forward kind of life, even if I have to make the first ripple. I have always been there for others, but have found later in life that I have never really been there for myself. I nurture my soul and my stomach, but never nurture my health.
So I am the black sheep, I may be that one and only to not break 100. But, I am taking more time for myself to learn to be active and make better food choices. Do I want to live to 100? No, not really. But being 240lb for the better half of my life, I would like to see my children grow up and maybe even see their children grow up. But if I continue to care for myself the way I was, that would be a questionable future. I would like to have friends on MFP since I really don't have anyone supporting my efforts (i.e. my mother who brings pizza and cookies to MY house and wonders what the big deal is. The two kids who love to give mommy gummy bears or a bite of their cookie. The daddy who is a steak and potatoes kind of man, so mommy gets to have a salad plate and daddy gets a dinner plate of food. The best friend who has ?gastroenteritis? and can only drink liquids, not allowed to exercise or eat vegetables.) So that is my whole circle of people. I need some people that can criticize but not be a troll and would love to have some people look through my diary. I know I have a kid cereal fetish, I have always had them and that is me cutting down A LOT from what I used to eat. Any advice would be great. Thanks All!

Hello,
Looks like you are on your way, with 26lbs lost! I think you should continue improving on the changes you have made.
As for advice, since different things work for different people, I have few of the following common in a lot people trying to change their eating habits including me:
1) Change the portion of the food you want to avoid by measuring it and reducing it gradually
2) Try and find alternatives; sometimes not so easy. But for eg, get plain cheerios or shredded wheat, and add some cinnamon powder to your cereal mix, and it makes it taste different.
3) Also, make some goals, and challenge your self to see if you can reach them i.e. Avoid one type of food (cereal) for one week and take it day by day. For every day you avoid it, you WIN!
Hope that makes sense for you. And good luck living for as long as you want to live!0 -
Hello there! I'm in a similar situation (sort of) where my husband basically eats meat, potatoes, cheese, salt, and butter. To top it all off I work for McD's. :frown: I don't come from a long ling of people who live to their 100's though. Most of my family has been overweight and lucky if they live to there 80's. It's hard when nobody around you eats healthy, but it can be done. I'll be willing to encourage you and give you a kick in the butt when you need it, if you'll do the same for me. I should tell you right away though that I'm not the kind of person who will sugar coat anything and I'll always give you my honest opinion so don't ask for my opinion or advise if you just want someone to kiss your butt and make you feel better.0

Sugarcoating is what got me to the weight I was, so I don't take that anymore I have a husband that loves how I look, but I don't love how I look. I am making the change for myself and for my kids and maybe he will see down the road it is worth it. I used to run in school and loved it, so I am keeping that as my main means of exercising for the meantime. If I start to plateau, I will mix it up, but I figured it is best for me to be active and do what I enjoy than half assing something I don't like as much. Thanks for the request btw0

I like your thought on making it a goal for the cereal. It is really a phase. I get this all over craving for it and then eat it every day until I am like "Cereal, ew" And I also see how it impacts on my calories for the day. I would honestly eat an egg white omelet everday if I could, but I really have to tip toe around in the house in the morning so the kids won't wake up. So I typically pack my breakfast. I hate yogurt, except for like trix yogurt, hate oatmeal, not too interested in bagels and PB or cream cheese because that's just as many calories as the cereal. PB and Jelly sandwiches are loaded with calories, so cereal is the only "conforting" thing I can eat in the morning. I do like corn flakes and multi grain cheerios, but it all comes down to the calories again. I would rather have a sugary, chocolatey fix than a healthier alternative. I'm working on it. Thank you for the advice!0
