One of them apparently ate the other, and died from gluttony. Only 1.5 hamsters were found. :noway: :frown:
They were raised together and lived together for over three years...but apparently this is a thing they do.
So who's ready for dinner?

Wow I knew that momma hamsters would eat their young but not them eating each other. I hope your kids aren't super young, that could give them nightmares.0

Was Richard Gere your dinner guest?
Hamster, not gerbil.0 -
Oh, and I'm sorry to hear this. We've never had more than one at a time, so I didn't even know they did that as adults. :frown:

Yikes! I didn't know they did that! But now I'm oddly hungry. ewwwwwwwwww0

Oh dear. I'm so sorry. That sucks.
We had two male gerbils as kids. We didn't realize that they would get aggressive with each other and fight to the death. The names Tom and Jerry became more than slightly ironic when Tom nommed Jerry to death.0 -

Are you saying he's a racist and won't consider other rodents?
I'm saying there's only so much room in there. But then, I think hamsters can collapse themselves to fit into tight spaces, so I guess it is possible.0 -
I had hamsters for a couple years growing up. They never ate each other but they weren't great pets. They would bite and they kept eating their way out of the cages no matter what they were made of. Get your kids a dog or cat.0

I had a real chunky hamster that would have babies & start eating them. We got up to 27 before I had to give them away.0

Awwww  Both of my daughters had hamsters. The oldest had ONE hamster for about two years while her little sister went through SIX. It kind of became a joke that she shouldn't have living pets (it was the same with hermit crabs).0

Oh, nasty! What did you tell the kids?0

I used to keep hamsters and once had a mother that ate one of her six babies. Apparently they'll do this if they get the human scent on them. I'd only had the hamster for ten days. It was sold to me as an 8 week old male, so I had no idea it was pregnant  and discovered six little pink babies on cleaning the cage out. I must have touched one in the process of scooping them back into their little house Only 5 ever emerged from the little house
I moved on to ferrets after that. They only eat people :bigsmile:0 -
Feeling sort of relieved they don't have hamsters in Australia now. It ate the other? Poor kids. What did you tell them?0

Sorry to hear that... and ewwww.0
