Giving Blood--What and How Much Should I Eat

I'm giving blood next week, and it just dawned on me that I shouldn't stick to my calorie restriction that day since I am going to need the extra energy the replenish my blood. I'm a small person, so when I give blood I always give the smallest amount, but I don't know what that is. I am currently eating 1100 net calories, and average about 250 exercise calories a day over a week (which I do eat).
I am speculating that I need to eat my TDEE and then some--my TDEE is about 1400 calories--what to eat beyond that, I'm not sure. Maybe another 200 calories? And should I focus on protein and iron rich food throughout the day? Should I eat more before or after I give blood? Any other hints appreciated.

No one seems to have an opinion, so I think I'll just eat TDEE and focus on iron rich foods.0

Assuming you eat healthy, just eat the waay you usually do. You don't need to eat extra.calories. It is a good idea to eat a meal high in iron before donating & also drink plenty of water.
I donate regularly and have for years with no problems. I also never, ever eat the junk they offer afterward, like cookies. It is not necessary to eat afterward.0 -
The important thing is fluids. Drink enough water before, and drink some after. I just eat regularly beforehand and have some juice AND cookies after.
I saved a life, I deserve a cookie.0 -
Also make sure you don't exercise that day or the day after.0

You should eat iron rich foods throughout the week so that when they test it, it is high enough to give blood. The day of, I make sure you have enough fluids. After you give blood, you should eat a little bit more than you are used to. Eat the cookies and/or drink the juice but don't worry about the calories. Your body burns a little extra to make up for the blood you have lost. Don't work out after you give blood. Give it a day. Even after a day, you may not feel 100% when you workout. I know it affects my runs for a few days, but that is me.0
