Cardio and weight GAIN!?

Recently, I have gained back about 45 pounds, so I am at a setback. However, some days I spent hours in the gym doing mainly cardio a little weights and I am GAINING weight on a 1500 calorie diet?
This just isn't making sense to me. I use to never have a problem losing weight and now it's just becoming a hassle.
I also googled this and found that cardio was linked to weight gain? This can't be true can it?
Any helpful tips on weight loss?
