I am dealing with really bad chest congestion, and am getting winded easily because of it. I want to keep up with my workout, but am wondering if I should really try and exert myself right now? The meds I am taking are making me pretty drowsy, so I don't really feel up to it anyway, but I don't want to let myself go til I am better.

When I'm sick, especially with chest congestion, workouts are off my list. I watch cals only to make sure I'm eating enough, and of course drink plenty of fluids. But rest is my #1 priority when I'm sick - the body heals and repairs itself when it's at rest. Trying to push through a workout may end up prolonging the sickness.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Your body needs rest. If your meds make you drowsy, please be smart here. I usually play by the rule above the neck I still work through it, below and I rest. You're not going to fall behind by resting up and taking care of your body. Besides, for those that use public gyms, there's nothing hardcore or respectable about someone spreading their crap when they're sick. Stay home.

I didn't think about that. The body does need rest to heal, so I guess it would be counter productive! Thanks!

I don't go to gym, can't afford it! I have a fitness workout thing on my husband's xbox kinect that takes me through an aerobics training half hour a day. Then I walk on treadmill that we bought. I never go out and spread it around when I am sick!

Have to agree to rest and recover. Just watch your calories and you will do fine! Feel better OP! :flowerforyou:

General rule of thumb is if the illness is above the neck you are good to go with workouts.

If it is below the neck, rest.

Chest congestion can easily turn into pneumonia if you are too stressed, and exercise is a stressor, albeit a good one usually, but not when you are ill.

Put off exercise until your chest clears up.
