Foot and Leg Cramps!

I was wondering if anyone had any advice about these crazy leg and foot cramps I'm getting. I get them in my feet at night when I'm watching TV and in my lower calf in the middle of the night. This just started last month and is very regular...I'm getting cramps everyday/night. I don't actually get them when I work out, just when I'm relaxing or sleeping.

It's really weird as my exercise routines and diet haven't really changed in the last year or so. I've heard not having enough potassium can cause cramps but I have a banana everyday and drink lots of water.

The only thing I can think of is I stopped taking a mult-vitamin a few months ago when those studies came out about them not having any effect.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks!

Try stretching your calves and feet often - like hourly. Here are 2 good ones:

    foot:

If those don't help, and you eat healthy (high veggies, low sodium), then i would ask a doctor about it.

    Thanks for the links!
  • Increase magnesium in your diet. Either from food or in pill form. I found it helped me.

Doesn't potassium play a role as well?

You may want to have an ultrasound done on your calf to rule out DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis). If you have a blood clot, that's not good news. My wife had one and had to be put on blood thinners. A piece of it broke off and went to her lung too, which hospitalized her for about 2-3 days. Scary times, I'll tell ya! Better to be safe than sorry.

I doubt this is OPs case

Shes probably lacking on some micro nutrients

I find magnesium and potassium help with cramping , but my biggest tip is to STAY HYDRATED
