no, never...that is a little bit obsessive...just enjoy the night out and put a guestimate on it...

    not really.

I have taken mine to all you can eat Brazillian- where it's meat all night!! (giggity). I don't think i'ts obsessive- I don't NOT eat because it's there- I just want to know how MUCH I'm eating. There is a difference I think in being attentive and wanting to know- because science- vs taking it so you can obsessive over every little bit- I just like knowing what I'm eating. I have a friend who weighs his rice at sushi (not the rolls- the bowl that comes on the side- they don't do rice rolls)

I don't take it often- but I have. I have no shame.

to each there own ...it just seems a little awkward to go out to dinner with friends and whip out the ole food scale ...LOL ...not knocking, just my opinion...

 It would be incredibly awkward for my friends. They'd be all like "what the hell is that?!"

By law all restaurants need to have nutritional information available upon request. You can just ask for the book.

Not in the US. the US nutrition information mandate applies only to restaurants with twenty or more locations serving substantially the same food at each. I virtually never go to restaurants with twenty of more locations (unless it's a lunch place like Chipotle or Panera when work orders it in). None of the small local places we eat at have this information available nor are they required to make this information available.

Nutrition info is easy to calculate for restaurants like Olive Garden, where they actually don't do any "cooking" but rather heat frozen, canned, or bagged food. Even then, though, you're at the mercy of the cook who adds oil and determines your portion, which likely does not match the portion on which the nutrition calculation is based.

Meh- I wouldn't expect many people to do it really. To each their own in deed- if you eat out quiet a bit I would- or get REALLY effing good at eye balling- I don't really go out with friends- just my BF. But friends I do go out with would understand- because well- almost all of them have their own scales.
I've done it twice in the last year maybe? It's only awkward if you make it awkward- you just ask for a small dish to tare the scale out and go forward- I don't' make a big thing of it. It's not really the focus of the meal.

I think it's way more rude to be playing on your phone than me weighing some meat on a scale LOL- I had a book- and wrote it down and moved on. It's really not that weird LOL
