Anyone use a cooling gel for joint pain?

Is it actually useful or a waste of money?

Products like Icy Hot, Artic Ice or another cooling gel.

I take 2 Glucosamine Chondroitin pills per day. They seem to help a lot.

They're a band aid, a topical analgesic will give you pain relief but not much more.

Use real ice (or the freezer gel packs) but, more importantly, try to find out what the source of the joint pain is and address it.

I do for a back problem, and the one I like brings nice blood flow and reduces inflammation. I'm on strong anti-inflammatory and pain meds for mine and still find the OTC cream useful. Mine has 30% Methyl salicylate and menthol and camphor. I've tried probably 10 billion of them, lol. The heavy salicylate seems to be key (for me) but the menthol and camphor are important, too. So don't just try one type; see what works best for you, imho.

It's actually just for my wrists. I should have been a bit clearer. I've been to a physio 3 times and he said that he doesn't know what the cause of it is because everything seems fine from all his checks. I can only assume it's because I spend most of the day on a computer or laptop.

He also said that if he tried to refer me to the hospital for X-rays and stuff it would be pointless because I'd get turned down by the other specialists because all the joints and tendons and whatnot in my wrist are as they should be. There's nothing he could do except lie on my referral which he doesn't want to do. He said I have to come back in 6 months (this was in January). But it's not getting any better.

I'd prefer something like a gel or a compression thing with ice or gel in it so that I could wear it and still work at the computer. An ice pack wouldn't let me do that. I'd have to hold it in place with the other hand :/
