What does "Eating back Calories" mean?

When I do my workout on my exercise bike I do 500 calories and log it into MFP so it adds on more which I use up . My question is does it mean say if you eat your limit i.e 2000 for maintenance if you do 500 on exercise , you can eat a further 500? Is it about when you eat your food? because I technically eat my food before a workout. CHeers

    MFP severely over-estimates calorie burns.
Also, people generally only eat back half their exercise calories.
And it has nothing to do with when you eat the food. It has to do with your calorie limit for the day.

MFP gave you enough of a deficet to lose the weight you wanted as quickly as you wanted in the calorie goal each day prior to exercise.

So when you exercise you "earn" extra calories...Yah...more foodz

But as mentioned MFP over estimates exercise calories so if you burn 500...eat 250-375 back..or 50-75% back.

MFP is designed for users who can't exercise to lose fat mass. When you are asked how many pounds you want to lose per week, MFP deducts a deficit for you. For example: 1 lb per week weight loss is a 500 calorie deficit.

If you exercise, MFP does not know about it. Thus, when you exercise, and log the calorie amount, it's ADDED to your existing deficit. Let's say you are already assuming a 1 lb per week (500 calorie deficit) and you burn an additional 500 from exercise. MFP will then suggest that you eat back the exercise calories (assuming they are accurate values) so you stay losing at the 1 lb per week loss.
