So I had a liver biopsy two days ago (Wed) and due to pain was barely able to eat those two days (maybe 900 calories) and yet I have gained weight? Gained even more after getting back to regular intake yesterday. I am just curious....could I still be retaining fluids from the IV or did I really just gain weight?

Gaining fat comes from our food intake, and our bodies are constantly fluctuating. If you were barely eating, you couldn't actually have gained weight.

I gained 5-8 pounds after surgery (two last year). The areas were inflamed and swollen. The operators filled me with gas, IV fluids and who-knows-what else. And the stuff in my intestine was not moving on its merry way during that time either, y'know?

It might be gone in a week? Or maybe it would be good for you to gain? I hope the biopsy is negative! Please be careful!

i'm betting it's water retention. pain, IV fluids, lack of water intake...
