How often do you do it a week... for how long each time?
Do you do any cardio at all? If so, totally different day? Or a little mixed it?
Thanks!

Because I'm doing SL 5x5 (which include heavy compound moves) I only lift three days a week. Right now the only cardio I do is ten minutes of walking on the treadmill before and after each lifting session. I am considering adding 20 minutes of HIIT running two days out of the week that I don't lift.
There are people who run right after lifting but I'm not one of those people, lol. My limbs feel like noodles after pushing and pulling heavy ****!
In terms of time, I end up being in the gym for like two hours. 1) the gym is the only "me" time I have with my busy schedule and I like to make the most of it by taking my time and relieving my stress, and 2) at my gym some waiting is involved to use the equipment, especially for the squat rack.0 -
I lifted heavy (er) for the first time yesterday and FINALLY feel it the next day. I know what that everytime. I just don't want to over do it... I gotta read up on it all still tho.0

Three times a week (full body) for around seventy to eighty minutes. No cardio.0

Second the Strong lifts 3x a week. It's all I do; lost 18# and many many inches in a year. I have *no* free time, work 70-80hr weeks as a medical professional, so 1 hr 3x a week is all I can spare. Just do it, you'll love it (especially when you realize you're picking up more than the guys.... )0

I lift 4 times a week. Doing an upper/lower split.
I do met-con or sprinting on my leg days, nothing on my upper body days and no cardio at all on my non-lifting days.
I do walk a lot, though. In fact, I walk everywhere - every day. I like to walk and it's just about my favourite exercise of all.0 -
Every system works until it doesn't anymore. When it doesn't, then it is time to take some needed time off and start fresh. I agree with the 3 times for 30 mins. You should be using weight you can get no more than 6 reps with on your worknig set. I just took a week off and lost 2 inches on my waist and gained 1.5 on my arms. Remember, we grow and get stronger outside of the gym. I grew considerably by simply resting for a week. I know it is hard to stay away from the gym. But we are iron addicts and must realize that what we love to do is what hinders us from achieving our goals.0

I do crossfit about 4x a week, and then normally lift on one of my off days targeting muscles that might have not been worked as much during the workouts. I feel like I get a pretty good mix of cardio endurance and strength building from it.
When you first start almost any training, 3x a week is best to let your body adapt.0 -
I am another one that does SL 5x5 3x a week.
I workout at home so it takes about 75-90mins each time now....mostly rest periods
I do a HIIT workout on my off days...
I love lifting and lifting heavy...squats higher than bodyweight, DL's higher than bodyweight and being able to do chinups is amazing...never mind the benches and OHP's I am doing.
ETA: since I've started I have lost 15lbs, 5 1/2inches and almost 5% BF...that to me says a tonne...(6months into lifting)0 -
SL 5x5 3x a week although us older people don't recover all that fast so I've been known to do 2x a week when the joints are really creaky,0
-
I lift weights 3 days a week + 1 day of strongman events. I do cardio and grip work on my "off" days 3 times a week.0
-
I run three times a week, play tennis often and lift ~ twice a week (often once lately). Compound lifts.0

I also do StrongLifts 5x5 about 3 times a week. The only cardio I do is as a warm-up before I lift. I've found I love lifting and I love the changes I'm seeing in my body! At 58, I need all the help I can get! :happy:0

5 to 6 days a week although due to upcoming finals, probably 3 to 4 times now.
Cardio? Never. I just lift weights faster (shorter rest times)0 -
I'm another Stronglifter - 3 days a week max 60 minutes per workout, they average out to be about 40 minutes each time. I sometimes run on my off days, 1 to 2 miles currently, trying to work up my mileage. I lift at home. I bought everything I needed off of Craigslist and saved a ton of $$.0

Right now I'm doing; SL 5x5 3x a week. I also do abs/hips and pull/chin-ups on weight lifting days. insanity 2x a week and yoga 1x week and trail running when weather is good 1x week.
Once summer hits I'll be gearing up for Tough Mudder so I'll need to get in more trail running & more boot-camp. I will probably change my weight program to starting strengths 2 day a week layout. I'll likely keep one insanity class and yoga of course. I'll never drop yoga ever again! every time I do my sciatic goes nuts and I can hardly walk.
So; 2 weight lifting days, 2 boot-camp, 2 trail running, 1 insanity and 1 yoga. ( running on boot-camp days.)0 -
I do the SL 5x5 Tue, Thu and Sat -- well, I use the lifts and 5 x 5, but I don't increase every time like that program requires, so it's definitely modified for my needs. I do increase frequently, just not every session. I do 20 minutes elliptical prior to lifting, moderate, not super fast. On the other days, I do treadmill or elliptical (MWFSat) and I don't do anything on Sunday typically. I also do yoga M-Thu when I can. I like a blend of different things! But I definitely need the lifting most
Workout A days (squat, dead, bench) I also do 3 sets to fail of assisted pullups and 3 sets of 10 of tricep pushups. On Workout B days (overhead press, rows, and squats), I do the pullups and 3 sets of 10 lunges.0 -
I lift 5 days a week. I don't do much cardio besides burpees and a lil bit of jumproping.0

Lofteren, do not shake this dood's hand. You may regret it for the rest of your days. This is the kind of dood that pinches 45lb plates together with his index and thumb for fun. Alphabeast for sure.0

5 days per week
alternate upper and lower body each day, 30-40 min sessions
cardio, 20-25 mins
I hate cardio but once the weather improves I will be getting most of my cardio outdoors again0 -
It's 3 times a week lifting for me, usually about an hour in the gym each time, after all is said and done.
I start with a couple minutes of incline walking on the treadmill to get my body warmed up and my heart going a little.
Then I take my time getting 2 or 3 different lifts done. I focus almost exclusively on compound lifts, sometimes some assistance type things if I feel like it. By the time I do this, I'm tired and want to go home and eat.
I usually do higher intensity and lower volume (more weight, fewer repetitions per set) and use mostly a reverse pyramid approach (the first work set is highest weight, least reps, decreasing weight and increasing reps in each consecutive set).
Cardio for me is rare these days. I use to walk a lot and I do still enjoy it, but that was before I found out how rewarding lifting was. And it's still cold outside.
Good luck. I hope you enjoy lifting. I have come a long way with it but still have a long way to go!0 -
3x a week here as well - 10min light cardio/stretch warmup, 30min lifting, 15-20 minute intervals and 10min yoga/stretch cool down.
Sometimes I do light cardio (walking, yoga or swimming) on my days off, but mostly I need the rest.
I've actually just had an entire rest week (lots of eating & sleeping = bliss) and am gearing up to get back to it all tomorrow. New day, new week, more weights to lift Starting The PLP 60 day challenge too (pullup, lunge, pushup - add one more rep every day) just for something fun lol0 -
Thanks for noticing0
