Can someone explain?

Hello! Why after a day of not calorie counting and eating what I like, I drop weight? I can be dead on 1200 cals all week and not drop. Do I need to increase my calories or something? Yesterday was my free day and the scales are showing a loss. However yesterday morning after a week of 1200 cals I was the same as I was on my last weigh in.

Yesterday (free day) I ate dim sum, noodles, some fruit pastels, diet soda and a grilled cheese sandwich and definitely not enough water.

In the week my typical day consists of salad with tuna, low cal mayo, jacket potato, sweetcorn no butter and then I'll bring it up to 1200 with a fruit salad that I'll eat through the day. 2.5 l of water.

My exercise is 3x 20 mind of light cardio a week. I have around 65lbs to lose.

    and definitely not enough water.

So you were a bit dehydrated perhaps ?

Weight fluctuates +/- 2 lb as water content of the body is not tightly controlled.

    Weight loss is not linear...

just because you ate your deficet for 5 days there then ate possible maitenance one day doesn't mean you lost weight eating your free day it means you were at a deficet through out the week...

Normally I get on the scale on Monday...and I am down and I don't get on again as I typically gain through the week...up and down...mainly through my exercise and water retention.

One week I lost 1/2 every other day...(it was right before vacation and I wanted an accurate weight prior to going)

    our bodies are weird things.

I,ve been finding the same for the last 3 years that I've been on this site doing weight loss and maintaining.
No answer, just agreeing; it's odd.
  • Stop weighing yourself every day. Our weight fluctuates from day to day for lots of reasons, especially for women because of hormonal variations. Once a week will give you a much better picture of what's going on.

I used to happen to me too when I was on 1200 and had a "free" day. You don't necessarily have to up your cals just know that because of your free day you average higher than that over the week anyway and that's ok too.

There's some good info in the link and links within that too.

Thanks guys. I'm not weighing every day, I never have. It was out of curiosity simply because I felt lighter.

I suppose these things just happen. This week I lost 0.8lbs but am magically down 5 inches! Ya just take the rough with the smooth :)
