    Agree with the folks on hydration. One thing I would add, as you get to longer distances pay attention to sodium. Sweating draws sodium out of your body and drinking lots of water further reduces the ratio of sodium in your body. I keep salted pretzels in my car and eat a couple after (or even during) long runs.

    One other thing. Have you ever checked out your form? Some runners can have very tense shoulders while running. This doesn't have a big impact while running shorter distances, but on long runs you can really fatigue your neck and shoulder muscles. This can cause headaches and soreness. Figured out that one the hard way, last 4 miles of my first marathon. ;-)
