This is for lap band patients and people who have had bariatric surgery. Just keep eating healthy and working out. When you get to your goal weight or want to start drastically increasing muscle mass, then look into specific diets.
It looks like you're doing a great job so far. Just keep up the good work.0 -
It's difficult to receive proper nutrients even if it's a high protein liquid diet. Even then, upon completion of this "pouch test", all you will have lost is water weight. Your abdomen will only look smaller because there is no food in it/no food being digested. You'll gain it all back once you begin eating normally again. In the long run, using this to "test" the size of your stomach doesn't seem like it will be at all helpful, and it's not necessary in order to begin losing body fat, because remember, you can't spot reduce fat.
The only time people should be on liquid diets is if it's medically necessary, in my opinion. After my liquid diet, doctor-ordered after my jaw surgery, I lost about 5 pounds. It was miserable. I gained it all back very quickly once I was allowed solid food.0 -
This is for those who have had bariatric surgery. It is based on a book and web site - http://www.5daypouchtest.com/
I had surgery in 1997, lost about 80 lbs and then put almost all of it back on. My doctor suggested I consider revision surgery as the knowledge about bariatric surgery has changed significantly in the last 15+ years. I read the book and it helped me realize how I was short circuiting my pouch. It is a simple diet where you do 2 days of liquid, add soft proteins day 3, firm protein day 4 and solid protein day 5. It isn't really designed to help you lose weight, it is about reconnecting with your hunger and the behaviors surgical patients are taught. There is no calorie counting during the 5 days, and you are eating a diet rich in protein. Not everyone loses weight during the 5 days.
I did not do the 5-day test, just because I never got around to making a 5 day plan, buying and prepping the foods. However I did recommit to the basic post surgical rules. I've since lost 65 lbs, and I'm now about as low as I got post surgery.1 -

What she said PLUS
yes if you have regained AFTER bariatric surgery , even if you don't do a "special diet" you remind yourself of the reasons and feelings you had for losing the wieght in the first place and for those with an over eating (binging) type disorder , it helps you get back that all important CONTROL of eating habits and choices.0
