Ladies.....HELP!!!!! Bladder control issues!!!!!

So, I started a functional training program a little over 2 weeks ago. I am working one on one with a personal trainer. So far, it's been mostly resistance exercises but today he amped things up a bit and added quite a bit of cardio. To my unpleasant surprise, I started peeing myself. Now granted, I've had 4 kids (most recent birth was a little over a year ago) so I know my bladder muscles are shot. I also understand that keegle exercises will help improve this area over the long-term. But for now, what do I do? My workout pants are black and I don't think he saw anything but I'd be mortified if my pee drips on the floor. I guess I could blame it on my sweat;)

My increased water consumption certainly doesn't help this problem. I don't want to wear a bulky pad but don't know what else to do....any suggestions? I really like my trainer; we're a good fit.....but I don't think I'd be able to face him again if I have an obvious accident. He is young, unmarried, and no kids.....so I don't know if he would understand. I'm so embarrassed.:(

Wear sanitary or bladder leakage pads. Do kegals. Research when to visit the dr. regarding this.

Absolutely kegals. You can do them anywhere anytime--don't delay. For now, for peace of mind, a pad is necessary. If you go to the bathroom before your session, it won't have to be huge. You will also find that you're not getting up all night to go to the bathroom. Kegals are great.

see a doctor (some of these kinds of problems can be treated, not always, but if you don't see a doc you won't know), and also there are pads you can get. and use the bathroom beforehand

regarding drinking water, a lot of people think they need to drink more water than they actually do, the 8 cups a day recommendation is just an average, depending on the climate and how much exercise you do you could need more or less than this. if your pee is clear, you are adequately hydrated and don't need to force yourself to drink more water. if you're needing to use the bathroom often, then you're drinking more than you need.

Thank you all for the advice....I appreciate it very much!!! I guess I'll be heading to the store for some products and will be discussing this issue with the dr. at my annual exam next month:)
  • Ask for a referral to a urologist. I had a "major overhaul" surgery 11 years ago to correct the damage done during my daughter's delivery. (The jaws of life may or may not have been used...) I'm going back next month for some fine tuning - minimally invasive stuff done on an outpatient basis. There are several options for repair, and you'll likely have a uro-dynamic study to see at what point your bladder begins to leak before he/she decides on which option is best for you.

Use pads. I compete in powerlifting and all the women with kids over a certain age include them as part of their equipment. I've peed many times on my own gym floor from the strain and pressure on my bladder. I've seen several women pee on the platform during a meet. It can be embarrassing but it's also a reality of life. Kegels will only go so far depending on what you're doing. They help but aren't a cure all. fwiw, I use Poise medium absorption :)

I have the same issue. I use the maxi pads when I work out. I talked to my dr, and she said I can get the mesh lining surgery thing, but I don't really want too do that. One of my friends also suggested using a tampon when you exercise. Something about it makes your muscles down there tense up. I haven't tried that though.
