Race For Life

Anybody else from the UK and doing Race For Life this year?

I've just started my training, using a 5k training plan. I'm running with my mum in support of some family who have suffered from cancer and my mum's best friend who sadly lost her battle 6 years ago. I am by no means a runner, I mean I am as far a beginner as it is possible to be, I've always maintained the opinion that I wasn't built to run, but I am determined to jog this 5k and for it to be the first of many! I have my second day of training tomorrow and am really looking forward to it.

Anybody else taking part? Have any tips? Etc

Not doing it this year but I have done this and similar charity events.

Like you I was not a runner to start off by training and building up to the event will make it more enjoyable and you will find the support of others on the run and on the sidelines will boost you too. Plus there is an injection of adrenalin you get from taking part. My main tip is to build up gradually, you will amaze yourself as your stamina increases.

Good luck and enjoy the experience, it can be a real tear jerker and a great laugh at the same time. I salute you!

Thanks, I really can't wait to do it. I did the Moonwalk for breast cancer a few years back, but I walked it cos it was a full 26 miles. Such an achievement though, I can't wait for this one.
