Going at this at a different angle

Since I was young, I've had an amount of weight to lose that was incredibly large considering my age. I've tried several times, but it didn't work. Now, I'm trying a different angle.

I'm 5'2", weigh between 231 and 233. I have bad knees and at only 24 with a toddler that isn't good. I've decided that my new angle is using a smartphone and taking my little tater tot for stroller walks on days with good weather. On other days, it's music and dance time.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to lose 100 to 110 lbs by 12-25-2015. I think that is a s.m.a.r.t. goal...

specific: losing 100 lbs
measurable: by using a scale, did i lose 100 lbs?
attainable: i have 21 months and 2 weeks to do it, which is about 5 lbs a month... super easy!
realistic: I know I can do this 5 lbs a month, which is about 1 lb a week.
time specific: by 12-25-2015

That is how I was taught goal setting because the goals that used to set were awful. I never reached them.

I think your goals are great, and it sounds like you are on the right track. You may want to set some smaller goals for along the way to your bigger goal.

Your comment about bad knees stood out to me. I said that my whole adult life. At the age of 50, I decided to do something about it. I saw a sports medicine doctor who referred me to physical therapy. After 4 months of PT I was able to say that I don't have bad knees anymore. Please see a doctor to find out what is wrong with your knees, so you don't spend your whole life limited with what you can do like I did. Perhaps it is the extra weight you are carrying, but it could be something else.

    Good luck!

That's totally doable. I am 5' 1" and also started at 230 lbs. Walking is a great way to start. It's easy on your knees and it's a great way to work up to doing other exercises. Check out Leslie Sansone's Walk at Home videos. You can throw one in while your little one is napping and be done before he wakes up. Maintain a reasonable deficit and weigh and measure your food.

    You've got this!

My bad knees come from actually chipping both kneecaps when i was younger; i have severe crepitus (sp) in both, so bad that another person can hear it well.
