Protein/Carbs P90X

I am starting P90X tomorrow and have a question regarding the portion method of eating. How many grams of protein constitute a serving of protein (out of the 5 allotted?). Same question for the carbs. For example, the guide lists oatmeal as one serving of carbohydrate. However, the oatmeal I eat also has 8 grams of protein. Is this a serving or half serving of protein? I am also confused by the portions listed for some of the recipes. For example, one of the soups has potatoes in it, yet is not counted as a carbohydrate. Aslo there are carbs in veggies and many other things. Should I be counting grams? Please advise. Thank you!
