Time to say farewell to junk food

Hey fellow fitness devotees!
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My username is anewattitude because that is just what I need... a new attitude! I have been exercising for quite few years now and even completed a 10k run but when it comes to making a committment to eating healthy I can't seem to stay focused. I feel lack all necessary culinary skills and if it were legal to ban someone from using electrical appliances, well.. lets just say I would be that person who would be banned! I know my lack of cooking talent really boils down to a lack of effort which is why I finally made myself join this site. Recording my food and exercise intake makes me accountable for my choices. My goal is to be a healthier and happier version of who I already am. We are all perfect in our way but just need a little boost in the right direction at times. If you read my profile you will notice I confessed to stuffing my face with chips moments before joining this site. I am now proud to say that moments before I started writing this post I tossed the remaining bag of chips in the garbage. It was not something I wanted to do but I knew I had to. Hmm ...Moment of silence please.... I will miss the salty and creamy flavour of those sour cream and onion chips but I will not miss the guilt and resentment I felt everytime I finished an entire bag. Many people say " Moderation is key" yet when you suffer from a vice that is contributing to major health issues I believe sometimes its best to say goodbye. At least for me that is best because if they are in the house, eventually they are in my mouth! I applaud anyone who makes the choice to live a happier and healthier life and if all goes well I will start a blog titled" Chips bad, Veggies good!" Right now, though, the pain is still too strong as I miss my chips
. . I think I will reflect on the good times I had with my junk food of choice while soaking in a hot bath and maybe drown my sorrows with a pint of icecream. Oh wait,, can't do that either.... Oh well!

Welcome! I know how hard it can be to get rid of the food that triggers you to stuff your face.
My trick has been to find alternatives to all those things. If I want chips, I measure out one serving of PopChips and eat them as slowly as possible. If I want something sweet and frozen, I have an 80 calorie whole fruit popsicle. If I want a cheeseburger, I make a veggie burger with fresh mozzerella and put it on a sandwich thin. Yes, moderation is a good thing... but sometimes, compromise works just as well.
MFP has a lot of great resources to use, too - the message boards here are wonderful, the food and exercise journals are very easy to fill out (actually they are also kind of FUN). If you would like a friend, feel free to add me!! Most of my friends here I have never met, but they are all wonderfully nice and great motivators. I hope you like it here!0
