Why am I not sore?

So me and my boyfriend are gym buddies , we use the same equipment and do the same amount of sets/ reps. Admittedly I use slightly less heavy weights but the ones I use I can just about manage and still struggle like mad on the last set. My boyfriend always wakes up super sore the next day and struggles with bending etc.. but I am fine . Could this be due to me drinking more water or even the fact that I have been working out at home for quite some time not using weights but stretching and cycling. It's just starting to worry me that I am not benefiting from my gym visits as I know soreness is a sign of a good workout .

Soreness is not always a good sign, but it can be a indication that you stressed the muscle and it needs to recover sure. I agree, for myself, nutrition plays a huge part in my recovery. If it's not on point, can expect soreness, almost guaranteed.
If you were working out at home, and doing some of the same type of exercises, that could be a reason? Are you guys doing compound exercises? machines?

Has your BF been going to the gym all that time, or just started?

Are you doing the exercises with full ROM?

We do a bit of everything as i like to warm up doing cardio ( he does do this also ) . We do squats, bench press etc and then we move on to the machines . I drink constant throughout the day and I'm always refilling my bottle at the gym whereas he seems to take tiny sips. There is probably a big difference in our diets also as even though we are supposed to be healthy eating i'm pretty sure he's snacking on sugary crap!

Soreness is NOT a sign of a good workout.

Either your muscular adaptation is further along than his, his diet is crap or he has something wrong with him. Either way the fault lies with him not you.

I think what they mean is that he might not be getting the right nutrition/enough water before/after his workouts to aid his muscle recovery, and that that could be why he is sore and OP isn't.

    ^^Pretty much.

Also, you SHOULD feel sore if you are new to any particular form of exercise but as your body adapts to exercise then the soreness shouldn't come back. If it does then you might have injured yourself somehow.

Post workout routine can also play a part....

If I run 12 miles, come home and sit on my backside, I can expect to ache / struggle to walk for a day or 2.

If, however, I come back, and stretch out / use a foam roller, I'm absolutely fine.....

Thanks guys!! I feel a lot better and think my body has probably adapted quicker than his :) will also recommend him to start hydrating himself properly so I don't have to out up with his moaning

Maybe get him to have a protein-based snack after workout as well. I find I ache SO much less when I have a protein shake after doing strength training :)
