People are so Helpful, Kind, Knowledgeable

I've been on this site for quite some time.. Every day I see people asking for advice and every day a ton of people step up and help. The vast majority of responses to any post are positive and encouraging, with the responders genuinely trying to offer the best advice they can, taken from their own experience and their own research. Even when the topic isn't fitness related, the majority of responses are empathetic and kind.

Inevitably, one or two posters will try to wreck the thread with unkind words or insulting rhetoric. .But the rest of the responders keep plugging away trying to help. .

The result of all this kindness? The daily thread about how mean everyone on MFP is  . Well. . it's simply not true and the posters of those topics are focusing on a tiny fraction of the responses to any given topic.

So thanks all you awesome MFPers who keep helping despite the lack of appreciation! You rock!

In for helpful, kind knowledgeable people. There are so many who give their time and perspective. It really is amazing.

Panties. Wad. Some people just can't help themselves.

But I agree. I rely on those with more expertise and they have been unfailingly kind. Which is great because I know nothing.

As a follower of logic and common sense, and not magical moonbeams and rainbow farts...I appreciate the "meanies" more because of their no-nonsense answers. Sometimes people need the truth. It doesn't mean others are unfeeling or not empathetic. Thanks, peeps. I love stalking the forums and reading advice, even if I never start my own thread.

Yep, have seen both. When a forum is so open to such a large variety of personalities, you are going to get many types of people. Like life, you just have to sift through them and take with you what you will, and leave the rest. If I see a smarty pants answer, I just choose not to reply. No need to encourage that kind of behavior. I also enjoy the straight up type of replies as well as the softer touch ones. I sometimes need to hear exactly what I am doing wrong. Most days I wear my big girl panties and can accept criticism well.

I've definitely seen both. I just get sad sometimes because I don't always articulate myself well so people misinterpret what I type. But oh well. :)

I think it's important to point out that the majority, if not all, the MFP community---want everyone to lose weight. They are not trying to hold you back with their responses, but argue over the most effective and lasting(satisfying) path to take. Some are more knowlegeable than others, and when reading the forums you get to know who they are. Their opinion packs more weight for me.
