Should I be doing more than just running?

Hi

Sorry I know I already asked a question earlier but just wondering if it would help to tone me up if I done some additional exercises - I have 2 dumbells in the house and an exercise mat

Can anyone suggest a website or programme that I can try fl- not cardio based though

Currently running 40mins a day thanks

I run 30-40 min a day as well but I also do body weight exercises 3-4 times a week. Basically squats, lunges, push ups, crunches, leg lifts, tricep dips...all those types of things.

I like nerdfitness.com. They have lots of different things you can do at home with little to no equipment.

Yes, personally I use You Are Your Own Gym.

Helps reduce injury risk as well as retaining muscle mass while eating in deficit, so improving body composition.

I do five runs and two bodyweight sessions per week, along with regular cycling.
  • Chalean Extreme! It's a weightlifting program and it works very well . I love it!
  • Great thanks I will check these out

Would definitely recommend resistance training of some sort. I personally prefer lifting heavy weights (check out Starting Strength, Stronglifts, New Rules of Lifting for Women or Strong Curves) as that has given me the most dramatic results. You can also do body weight exercises though, google "you are your own gym" and "convict conditioning" - and NerdFitness is a great resource too. Try and find a proper routine rather than making your own up (at least to start with) and you will need some kind of progression eventually (ie heavier weights, or harder exercises), otherwise you'll stop seeing progress.

I'd definitely recommend resistance training not only for a more "toned up" look, but also to improve your running and to help avoid injuries.

ETA: I see from your ticker that you still have a way to go, but don't let that discourage you from starting now. A lot of people don't want to focus on "toning" until they've lost the weight, but you would really, really benefit from resistance work while you're losing the fat, because you risk losing too much lean mass (eg muscle) as you lose weight, and resistance training can help prevent that. It might not seem important, but you'll want to preserve as much lean mass as you can, not only for your health, but for appearances to. It's really, really hard to actually build back muscle once you've lost, and much easier to maintain it as you go! So, even though you may not see obvious results of these exercises until more of the fat is gone, good things will definitely be happening, and I have no doubt you'll be happier with your results once you reach your goal.

You could google and find a ton of strength training routines with dumb bells.

If you've got access to a swimming pool then get in there and boom watch your body firm up, weights help but swimming is awesome for it.

thank you just seen you had this - i have seen on here the results from weights and lots of people raving about it
  • just realised my goal weight was 88lbs - i have changed that to 140lbs!

80lbs to go not 140lbs - if i was to be 88lbs there would be nothing left of me
