Swimming-Technique Improvement

I'm kind of desperate for a faster sprints and long distance time in the pool, my times haven't dropped for a year and I'm beginning to worry. Does anyone have any tips on how to go faster or how to keep up a relatively modest pace for long distance?

I used to swim competitively in high school, but that was a while ago. It's tough to give feedback without seeing the stroke.
With free, make sure your head is riding higher in the water, the water line should be on your forehead, not the top of your head. Make sure you're rolling into the stroke, a sideways body position creates less surface area, therefore less resistence in the water than a flat body. Same for the back stroke, rotate your shoulders as you stroke.
Breast and fly-not my strengths. I was a long distance swimmer, and that was really all about endurance and pacing. Don't go out too hard in the beginning because you'll tucker out at the end. We always were able to make sure we were on pace by counting your strokes into the flip turn-once you hit the colored section of the lane, count and make sure that number does not go up. Loooong strokes are most efficient and will use less energy so you last longer. And strong, quick flip turns always help shave seconds off your time.
