yogurt with fruit recipes?

Hi,

I find the fruit on the bottom yogurts too sugary, sweet personally so I'm thinking of trying to make my own. I'd use plain or vanilla yogurt and then spice it up with fresh fruit and then maybe honey?

Does anyone have any recipes or ideas you could share if you do this yourself?

Thanks!

Laurie

I do this with plain Greek yogurt, fruit (usually strawberries), and a little bit of honey. Saves sooo much sugar!

As an aside, unflavored Greek yogurt is a really good sub for sour cream, too!

I'll do greek yogurt with 50g blueberries, 30g raspberries and 30g sliced almonds. Great texture, super filling and yum! :)

I do a cup of plain Fage 0% yogurt, 2 Tbsp. of sugar free maple syrup, a dash of cinnamon, 1 or 2 Tbsp. or Truvia (or sweetener of choice) and fruit. The fruit is usually blueberries, strawberries, or mixed berries. Sometimes bananas or peaches. If I do bananas, I will usually switch out the maple syrup for 1 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa.

Thank you for the ideas guys. I'll have to pick up some berries this week and give it a go.

Yoghurt with fresh strawberries (optionally add a tablespoon of cereal too)
Yoghurt with honey, apples and cinnamon
    Yoghurt with plums and walnuts
If you do not mind about the fruit not being fresh/raw, yoghurt is great with canned cubed peaches too.

I've been really enjoying plain Greek yogurt with some chopped up mango... nothing else in it. I've been doing 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt and about a half of a mango. YUM!!!

ETA: I have been shopping at Aldi, so that's where I am buying the ingredients. I noticed that their Greek vanilla yogurt is a lot higher in calories compared to the plain Greek yogurt. For me, the fruit covers up the boring taste of the plain yogurt, so I prefer to stick to the lower calorie plain vs. the vanilla. Of course there is nothing wrong with having the vanilla kind either :)

I usually use Greek yogurt as a mini-meal since it's bigger than a snack:

    7oz container of Fage 0%
1 tbl jam (lemon curd is awesome too)
    1/2 c unsweetened fruit.

Beware adding more sugar to the vanilla yogurt varieties as they already have sugar in them. Often as much as fruit on the bottom.

If I'm too lazy Fage's Fruyo is probably the least sweet flavored yogurts I've had.

Last night, I diced a Granny Smith apple, drizzled it with honey, then topped it with nonfat plain Greek yogurt and cinnamon. Yummy, and the large apple made four servings. My family loved it! (I used sugar free honey-style syrup for my diabetic mom -- Walmart carries it.)

I LOVE plain greek yogurt and fresh strawberries and/or blueberries. Add a sweeter of your choice and then sprinkle on some sliced almonds.

1/2 cup of plain (fat free) greek yogurt, 1/2 cup of mango, 1/2 cup of raspberries. Fruit thawed in the microwave, yogurt added, 3-4 pulses with my handblender. Yummy!

I have a lot of frozen unsweetened fruit in my freezer and choose whatever my tastebuds desire.

If you don't thaw the fruit, the same process will literally give you "frozen yogurt". Raspberry is my favourite!
  • mix orange juice with plain yogurt, it's sweet enough to eat or freeze into popsicles :)
I love sugar but pre-sweetened yogurts are too much for me

My favorite is to chop up an apple into small pieces and mix it with some splenda, lots of apple pie spice, and a little cornstarch then bake it in the oven. After it cools I store it in the fridge then mix it with vanilla greek yogurt the next day. Sometimes I even mix a little bit of oats, flour, splenda, more apple pie spice, and a little butter and give it a little crumb topping...super delicious! Peaches are really good the same way. Strawberries mixed with vanilla greek yogurt and some mini chocolate chips are really good too. I've added protein powder to plain Greek yogurt before too.

Whoa!!! I love the popsicle idea! Very creative!
  • I LOVE yoghurt with fruit, I have 50g of blueberries and 100g of natural low fat yoghurt and a little honey, most days for breakfast. Occassionally for dessert i'll have the same but ontop of a meringue - yum!
I've also been meaning to get some vanilla greek yoghurt to coat blueberries in then pop in the freezer to snack on! :)
