I really need some input , i have lost 46 lbs so far since March 2010. I like it!! BUT i have like sagging, wrinkly skin on my thighs, my arms and of course the dreaded belly area. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and do treadmill, stationary bike and then work the machines, but i dont see the skin firming or getting better :( I rub Vit E oil on the wrinkly skin and nada :(

And i am 51 so i know it isnt going to be all tight and firm like a youngin, but darn i dont want to look like a deflated elephant either with all this extra saggy skin..any help????

It sounds like you are doing some great cardio work, but I think if you add in some strength and resistance training, you'll see some improvement with the sagging skin. If you don't feel like using the weights and machines at the gym, try some DVDs at home. A lot of these use light weights or just your body weight. I've lost 50 pounds since March and have seen a huge improvement in the smoothness of my skin once I added some strength training into my routine.

    Good luck!

I agree with strength training. You can make some awesome changes in your body with strength training!

I second that suggestion. I've been doing strength training all summer (during which I've lost about 15 pounds) and it's really helped with how my skin looks. My thighs and stomach don't have any saggy skin (they're not completely flat and toned yet, but progress is being made). My arms are my one trouble area, however I've seen it definitely get better lately. When I flex my muscles, the sagging skin gets snapped back into place and I can see muscle definition. So over time, the skin should go at least some of the way back to normal. And I've been using cocoa butter on it (I need to remember to apply it more often, I've been forgetting lately). Anyway, try that and you should see improvement. And strength training is good for a lot of other benefits, if you build muscle, it boosts your metabolism and burns more fat :)
  • i agree with the strength training advice. i lost 70 lbs in a year. i also use a skin tightening serum (nivea), but theres one by murad and clinique also. dont know if it helped at all, but its worth a try

I use Nivea skin tightening and find it works very well for arms and also sagging of boobs

I also agree with the strength training...

Maybe arrange for a consultation with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon...they may be able to give you some good advice on skin treatment...I've heard that most creams do not help as the collagen has been stretched out.

Skin ellasticity is mostly genetic. Building muscle under the skin to replace the lost fat is an option but for weight loss of extreme amounts it's hard to create that much muscle to take up the area that was once fat.

I to suffer the same issue but I've come to the realization that I will need surgery at some point(trunk lift).

Lastly remember you need to remove ALL fat below the skin to get it to the pint od tightening. The skin should have the density of the skin on the back of your hand.
