Need to Get my Groove Back

Hi, I'm an ex trainer who's been the victim of two rear end collisions. After 4 years without much activity I've gained 15 lbs in the past year with a lot of muscle loss/higher fat percentage. Injured neck/back and fused nerves in my foot make workouts painful so I'm looking for the right workout that doesn't hurt but helps to build back muscle tone. I've been doing some yoga and interval training on the treadmill. Foot hurts after the workout but not during. I just don't move like I used to so suggestions are appreciated!

I'm not 100% sure that I ever had a groove to get back, HOWEVER, I am always happy to welcome a new friend to MFP :happy:0

I've been a member here for a long time but only very recently have decided to get serious about losing weight. I gained 20 lbs. in the past year due to a hysterectomy. Not acceptable! Yikes!
Anyway, I wanted to reply to you because many years ago I had a serious accident which resulted in a compressed disc in my lower back and metal in my right ankle. Long recovery period and I put on about the same amount of weight you have, probably more. I know how awful it is for an active, fit woman to suddenly find herself injured, hurting, and out of shape. It's so depressing.
You are a trainer, you will figure out how to modify your exercise routines to where they don't hurt anymore. But you might have to accept that a certain amount of pain is just going to be part of your life now. You'll get used to it, it will be in the back of your mind, and you will learn to just live with that pain and not let it rule your life.
I notice you don't mention cycling. Have you tried that? The elliptical cycle for half an hour feels better on my ankle than the treadmill for half an hour. Walking helps my back and legs a lot. Also, have you considered swimming laps? I used a snorkel in the pool and swam back and forth, not exactly a champion swimmer but it didn't hurt my body. I chose to quit because the chlorine was drying out my hair to where it looked like straw. I know why most swimmers have short hair now!0
