i am 20 yr old female height 5'0 and weight 126lbs exactly.. i want to shed these 26 pounds.. my problem is due to my busy routine i cannot fit in any program or running or strength training..i walk only for 60 mins, do a little jumping jacks in between and thats all.. will i lose weight doing this for 60 minutes? i dont mind losing it slowly, but will i ? i am trying to eat b/w 1300-1500.. oh and i was doing turbofire for the last three months .. so will walking be now effective? like it doesnt get my heart rate up as much as i was getting it up on turbofire..
p.s: sorry for my english :p english is not my native language :p

Your weight loss will be determined by your logging consistency. Log everything, be diligent and patient.

If you have time for 60 minutes of walking/jumping jacks how do you not have time for weight lifting? Sorry confused...

I don't think your goal is realistic. 26 lbs is a lot for someone that is already a decent weight. Since you are short, you could probably do 10 lbs just by logging meticulously and walking.

After 10 lbs, I would just up your calories and start weight training. If it is important to you, you will find time!

    Good luck.

You need to go see what your BMR is. There is no magic number of calories in/calories out that works for everyone. You need to go to bmi-calculator.net and go to BMR Calculator and see what your BMR is, then cut 250 calories by way of food and burn 250 calories by way of exercise. that will reduce you by 1 pound per week. There's a lot more science to it if you wanna get extra technical but for simplicities sake, just do that.

This is awful advice. OP, DO NOT cut 500 calories from your BMR. Your BMR is the amount of calories it would take to sustain you.....in a coma.

Calculate your TDEE, since you're smaller, subtract 10% or so without dropping below your BMR. Use that 60 minutes you don't have for weight training, but have for 60mins of walking, and get into a weight/resistance program. Mix in some cardio for health and so you can eat more....rinse/repeat.

You probably don't need to worry about lowering your weight at your size rather than dropping overall BF%.

Agreed. At your current weight, you have a normal BMI. Your body is going to be reluctant to let those last few pounds go.

Rather than focusing on the number on the scale, I'd focus on body composition (body fat percentage).

Also, 80% of fitness is nutrition, so tighten up your food logging.
  • I don't go to a gym either, but can still get in lots of exercise.

Try Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred. All you need is a couple of hand weights....I think you can even stream the video for free on youtube.

Walking is great exercise whether you are doing it just to be fit or to lose weight. The important thing is to make sure you are walking far enough, fast enough, and often enough. If you can get your walking speed up to 3.5-4mph (which is very brisk), you will rasie your heart rate more and get more benefit from the exercise. You can also include pumping your arms while you walk or even carry light hand weights. It is also a good idea to try to keep your abs tensed while you walk in order to improve your core strength and posture. This is a pretty decent article that talks about walking and technique:
    http://walkingconnection.com/fitness-walking-technique-and-form/

As for how much you walk, it depends on your level of fitness and what you are comfortable with, but I would recommend that you go for at least 2 miles a day, 5 days a week. If you can make it 3 miles a day, that's even better.

ETA: Walking has been my primary form of exercise for over three years and I have lost around 100lbs. I currently walking 3-4 miles a day, 5-6 days a week, and I try to hit 3.5mph (although it's hard because I have short legs). The other thing I do is watch my diet and maintain a calorie deficit.

Hey, just jumped on board to say I know exactly how you feel.

I'm a similar height- well 5 feet only just... to the point where if you measure me in the evening it's definitely 4'11!
It is a NIGHTMARE for me, honestly. I tried upping my walking a few weeks ago and all that happened is I got sore legs and gained back about 4lbs of what I have to assume is water. I know it's short term but no amount of rationalisation can make up for the sinking feeling when you see the number on the scale...

Anyway... I don't have a lot of advice just a lot of sympathy!

Because of my (lack of) height I burn less in general and yet when dinner is served I somehow seem to be able to eat as much as anybody else. Surely I should be getting a break, like a smaller appetite or something? So using other people to gauge what's "normal" is useless.

Also the weight on me is definitely not supposed to be there, it sort of clings to my butt and gut... if I'm sitting down I look fine. It's only when you get to see the whole thing it looks like I'm one of those weird reflections in the hall of mirrors! My frame is quite small and the margin of error when you're petite is so much smaller!

Hang on in there and I'll definitely keep my eyes open for any advice given here.
