Being Social At The Gym - Truth or Myth

Is it true that you can have a decent workout whilst being social at the gym? Or it's just a myth that gossip people started to justify the lack of training?
I'm the kind of guy that hasn't even reached the gym and is already with the headphones on and 95% aurally-isolated, so I find this mainly important.

I have my headphones in before I walk in the door. I prefer to get my workout in and then go home and eat!0

I like the gym better when my friends are there, but I usually have to go at separate times. I'm more motivated if I'm meeting someone there though.0

Im not much of a talker, prefer to get in get done and get out. On the rare occasion that im working in or spotting its more awkward to say nothing.0

Nah, I'll greet people with a hello or a smile & nod, but I'm not there to talk.0

It depends on how you work I guess...there are a couple guys I enjoy shooting the **** with at the gym...they're both a fountain of knowledge when it comes to power lifting. We can easily shoot the **** between sets and then get back to business...what else are you going to do on a 3 minute rest?0

I hate when anyone tries to chit chat with me at the gym!!!! I am in the ZONE. as soon as I put my bag down, head phones are in. Now, If someone tries to talk with me while im there, I wont be rude, but I honestly prefer for everyone to let me be so I can focus & get my workout done.0

I am one of those who goes to the gym for the actual purpose of working out. I suppose some people are a bit more social than I, but to each his own.0

Same here. I'd prefer a smile or a nod. If it's someone I know and have not seen in awhile there'd be a brief conversation (hi, how are you) then it's back in the zone.0
