Hi everyone! My name is Patti. I just joined my fitness pal to help me lose weight. I am currently in school to become a family nurse practitioner and feel like I have to get into shape to be an example of healthy living. I am starting the couch to 5 K running programs today. I had back surgery 10 and 8 years ago and havent been able to run since, which made me put on weight. So I am going to try and get back on the running schedule and eventally run a half marathon. That is my ultimate goal because no one thinks I am able to do it because of my back and I want to prove them wrong. I found this website through a girl at work posting it on facebook and I decieded to try it and so far it is great! I have done weight watchers in the past with success but I think I am going to like this better because I know how many calories I am consuming and I will be able to see how many I burn in a day too! I am currently 273 lbs and want to be down to 180 which I was 10 years ago before my back surgery. Hopefully with the help of my husband and family I can do this! Good luck to everyone! I wish you all the best on your journey! It is nice to know that when I am running and hating it at first there are other people out there like you that hate it too :)

  • Congrats!!! I suffer of back problems myself and I know how it feels to want to exercise and not been able to do it. I was never good at running so I admire your dedication,I really hope you will be able to get to your goal.
    Best wishes,

  • Hi Patti! I am new to the boards as well and just started using MFP about a week ago. My personal trainer put me on a very strict diet today for the next 2 weeks and I think it is going to be rough for me. I have only lost 1 pound since starting MFP but since my heaviest weight I've lost 15 pounds since April of this year. I have about 30 pounds to go until my goal but I know I can reach it. It will be a hard road but one I am willing to travel. Good luck to you!
