Weighing food

I need some advice on weighing food. I'm new to this whole thing and curious how you go about weight certain foods. Like say a pasta salad? (foods with multiple items in them) I know my biggest issue is portion control. Any advice is appreciated!

For foods with multiple items, I'd weigh all of it and then figure out what one serve is. Then enter the recipe into MFP and weigh yourself out one serve. Hope that makes sense0

well, if it's a pasta salad or dish you make yourself, you'd weigh or measure the individual ingredients to get the correct portions of each or whatever the recipe calls for. if you're making multiple portions (i.e. a salad that serves 4), weigh it after it's made and divide the total weight by the number of servings (in the example, it'd be 4). i'd recommend a scale with a tare feature so you can eliminate the weight of the bowl it's in.
The recipe builder in my fitness pal can be a big help with this too.
if it's a prepackaged pasta salad, it should say on the label how much is a serving size in grams or oz, so you'd just weigh that out.0
