Underlying Health Condition and Weight Gain? Strange!

Hi All,

I have been on a Physician managed weight program since early December and have done quite well. My meal plan is a very healthy 1800 calories per day with an eye to losing 1 lb per week on average. All has gone well until the past 3 weeks.

We can talk about calorie deficits etc. however I am doing everything right according to my physician, dietician and exercise trainer however in the past 2 weeks I have gained 5 lbs. I have tested high for creatinine and low for thryoid. My hands and upper body are retaining fluid and the stiffness and pain in my hands actually wakes me up at night. On a recheck of bloodwork (after not exercising for 2 days) all my bloodwork was normal. We talked about electrolyte imbalances, hormone imbalances, overexercising and rhumatoid arthritis. I have now been referred to an RA specialist and have been prescribed celebrex to help with the inflammation which is helping.

I do strength training 3 times per week and I work out on my elliptical doing interval training 2 - 3 times per week. My elliptical workouts are big workouts. 45 - 50 minutes burning between 650 - 750 calories per session.

I am eating balanced good healthy food. I have taken as much processed food out of my diet as I can and make almost all my own food including baking my own breads, muffins etc. I have eliminated sugar to the best of my ability.

For some reason I can't help but come back to the exercising and trying to determine if there is a link there to the fluid retention and weight gain. I know it sounds stupid but something is clearly not right here.

Has anyone out there experienced any similar symptoms as I am experiencing and if so were you able to come to a resolution.

I'm just trying to figure this out.

thanks.
