Protein shakes confuse me...

I've asked a few of my 'into fitness' friends about this but i only get confusing answers to this question:

If I start drinking protein shakes (In particular, i'm going to try the Strawberry Bio Skinny shake as a post workout drink/meal), do i count this as my protein for the day (theres around 30g in one serving) ? Or...do i drink this on top of my daily protein allowance?

I actually struggle to get enough protein in my diet- this is why I wanted to drink some shakes, but i also don't want to eat excess in case it turns to fat.

Also, i'd like to know if anyone else has started drinking them and if they've seen any improvements?

Cheers guys.

Eating more protein than needed isn't converted to fat. You just don't use it, just like getting too much of any one thing. Only thing converted to fat is any food eating above your maintenance level. I seriously doubt your exceeding tour limit. In a deficit, it's generally recommended 1g per pound of lean body mass of protein, which is way more than the MFP default. There are a lot of different sources of protein than shakes and bars, but they do have their place if you're busy. They're convenient. Cottage cheese, quinoa, eggs, Greek yogurt, nuts, lean meats, cheeses are other sources to think of ;)

Yes it would count towards protein, and you just log it like any other food. So as long as you aren't going over your calories, it's not going to "turn into fat".
