When to buy new wardrobe?

For those who have or plan to lose over 100 lbs, how often and at what milestones did you have to or do you plan to buy new clothes? I'm a third of the way to my end goal but my "skinny jeans" are now looser than my fat jeans used to be but I'm afraid if I go buy new clothes now I'll have to do so again every 2 months which I really can't afford to do. I can't just "go cheap" and buy used pants because I have a 38 inch inseam, few retailers carry that length and no resellers will have them.

Even though some people frown upon it.. if you have a Kohl's around you.. (or other stores) they do returns no questions asked.. so just keep the receipt.. lose weight.. exchange for smaller size..

    Just saying.

No time limit, like within 30 days?

I think kohls does have a return time limit

Just a shot in the dark- have you ever shopped at Old Navy? I know they are one of the few places that offer "tall" sizes for women (although I think you have to order them online and they don't carry them in the stores as much) so they might for men too. They are also fairly cheap to begin with and have lots of sales.

    Clearance.

Seriously. Kohls, Target, Old Navy. I buy my clothes on clearance. For pants, I'll buy 3-4 pairs of pants in my current size, depending on price. I just bought 2 pairs of jeans for $8 each at Kohls and then I bought a 3rd pair one size down because I know I'll be dropping into them at some point, and I'd rather have 1 pair of pants to hold me over until I can replace the bigger sizes. This helps with cost ALOT. I've already replaced all of my XL tops with Large. I even have a few Medium sizes now too. I just start filtering it in and periodically try on the smaller sizes until the fit/look good.

It's an ongoing thing. I'm continually buying new clothes, but like I said, it's clearance, so it cuts the cost way down.

Buy when your clothes are falling off, and buy them a bit tight. Typically you can skip 2-3 sizes doing it that way. It's not pretty, but heck, it's temporary. I skipped buying jeans in Summer too (basically went from size 18 jeans to size 8). And I also buy most of my things at Kohls (the unlimited return policy doesn't quite work when you've worn and washed the clothes, by the way, lol). Clearance, sales with 30% coupons... they have really good deals.

If you have a couple of really good pants, you may want to find a local tailor. They can do an amazing job and most really don't cost too much.

I know you said that resellers are tough - but don't give up on them - they get new things daily and someone somewhere will clean out and donate stuff. I buy lots of clothes at thrift stores - size changing or not.

Also - if you know you are going to keep changing sizes, only buy one or two pairs of pants - sure you'll be doing laundry more often=but they only have to last a few months and you won't need to buy as many.

Also - watch for clearance sales - love Kohls and Target, even Walmart. the quality doesn't have to be all that - as long as you look ok until you need to shop again in two months - who cares if it doesn't last - just more incentive to toss it out (or donate) than keep it since it was expensive.

I've never found 38" inseam pants on clearance, ever. Most stores don't carry it.

Also try eBay. At least for women's pants, you can select inseam as part of your search criteria. Then sort on listing date for the most recent. That should make it simple to find things that might fit. I've picked up several things really cheap. A lot of the sellers include measurements, or you can ask.

Then Ben - I recommend you buy new pants when you can't stand them so loose (falling off even with a belt) and maybe buy one or two pairs to rotate around until you need to drop a size again (and buy them on the snug side).

Just buy enough to get by - and then do it again in a few months. I know that big/tall sizes are hard to find - all you can do is the best you can to keep yourself covered or for work and hope for summer and short season, when length won't be as big of an issue and you can get some better deals.

    Good luck.
