Girl's Night Out-What to eat?!?

Heading over to a Mexican restaraunt tonight for a little GNO with two of my friends... What are your favorite low cal dishes to get and enjoy? I'm trying to think outside the fajitas that I usually get and NOT get the cheese covered chicken burrito I wish I could get!!

What about a low cal cocktail? I can only imagine a margarita wiping out my remaining calories... I've got about 900 to play with :-)

Honestly for the drink - I just sip Tequilla straight - but I don't know many people who drink it that way.

Food. Go for chicken enchiladas without cheese - the red sauce is way less in calories than the cheese stuff. Also try to opt out of any sour cream.

Well stay away from the dishes that are loaded with cheese. Also An average enchilada has about 300 calories in it. Fajitas would be the easiest safe thing to eat. Maybe try their tacos out. Or go for that burrito cus I cant see one burrito being 900 calories. Just dont eat any of the sides it comes with.

Get the fajitas and skip the tortillas, cheese and sour cream. Easy.

Tacos would be fine, as long as you go easy on (or avoid) the cheese and sour cream. Keep in mind that corn tortillas are typically a lower-calorie choice than flour tortillas.
Steak or chicken tacos on corn tortillas, maybe some pinto beans, and a yummy salsa wouldn't be a bad choice. I'm getting hungry now! Have a fun night out :-)
Also, drink-wise, tequila is good with grapefruit soda (e.g. diet Squirt.)
  • Yeah I think half of what makes Mexican food so good is the cheesy goodness!!

Enchiladas without cheese should be a crime. I would go for shrimp fajitas, just because they are my favorite!

Another suggestion I just thought of is huevos a la mexicana (Mexican-style eggs). Essentially scrambled eggs in salsa, with tomatoes and chiles. A very delicious dish, and fairly healthy seeing as how eggs are fairly low-calorie and high protein. You can have them with a few corn tortillas and eat them as tacos, with some pinto beans and a little queso fresco if you like.
Not sure if the restaurant you're going to has them on the menu, but they could probably whip some up if you asked.

I haven't had shrimp fajitas in forever. That sounds awesome!

Avoid the "free" chips and salsa.... they cost like 4 hours on a treadmill...

Haha! Those always get me. I avoid Mexican restaurants just because of those chips and salsa.

OP, personally fajitas sound delicious. Though it may be worth getting something good and then only eating half or even a third of it and bringing the rest home. Or maybe try splitting something with someone else? Last time I went for Mexican was with my husband and 1 yr old and my daughter ate my rice and beans and left me the chicken in my enchilada. Lol.

Haha yeah, they get you every time!!! I love salsa and they have a fabulous cabbage salad they serve with the salsa so I'm the odd ball who always orders my own separate bowl of salsa and cabbage and I eat it with a fork! I've done that since childhood!
