one week shred?

I did jillian michaels new dvd ...one week shred....today. I did the strength training video then right after I did the cardio. Each is 30 minutes. On the video she states doing one in the morning and one in the evening. I dont have time in the mornings. Is doing both in the evenings okay? I jog 3 days a week and plan on doing that dvd 2, maybe 3 days a week..
Also should strength training or cardio come first?
Thanks

I honestly don't think it matters. I did both yesterday and liked the cardio better than strength. The 1 wk angle was just a marketing gimmick, they have to do something to make it different. I've read a lot of people find weights easier to do in the AM but the splitting of it was also to save you time.
Most reviews I've read, people are buying it just to have another dvd to put in the rotation with others. I feel whatever fits your schedule. I think jogging a few times a week is great, your body wont get used to just doing the dvd and it will be a nice change of pace.
I do strength on cardio days and sometimes strength alone if it's heavier or longer session. I wouldn't get too concerned with it, you'll see what works for your and your schedule, being flexible helps stay on task.

Have fun with it. : )

Yah, I don't believe the one week part. I bought it cause I like her dvds and wanted a new workout. I was just concerned about doing both strenght and cardio one right after the other.
    Thanks

I recommend doing the strength training before cardio.

Allows me the ability to give each w/o my all.

Usually when a program is made to be done at 2 separate (set) times, there's a reason... It's probably to prevent over training. (This will lower your central nervous system's strength) and thus cause your to feel fatigued or fall sick..

    It's 1 week though, so I don't think it'll do much harm :)

I am downloading the video today off iTunes. I am going to give it a try for the 7 days straight and see what happens. I've always been told to do strength before cardio. You want to be less tired for the strength part of your workout and not fatigued by doing cardio first.

I love jillian Michael s videos! Ive only been able to do the one week shred three times. Hoping to get in at least two times this week. Ive been doing both ...strength then cardio and its tough!
  • Im doing it morning and night like it says to do, i have time. :)
I really like her in this dvd.

I burned 266 with strength, cardio should be more i hope
so for the day it will be a good burn amount
i plan to add more cardio on my high calorie days.

What is this one week shred... New JM or is it old?

Brand new JM, came out in March. The idea of it is to do it for one week for a special event etc. She says you should lose 7lbs in one week. Doesn't seem possible but it's a good workout nonetheless

I'm still enjoying it,it packs quite a punch for 30 minutes. It goes by pretty quickly for me and even though it doesn't have a timer, she lets you know when you are half way or have 8 minutes to go.
I think the "1 wk" part was just a new way to market a new DVD...I doubt Jillian would say she thought it was possible to lose 7 real pounds in a week and she only to my memory, mentions that twice during the workout but does give a lot of general motivation.

I hope she comes out with a HIIT workout next with strength and cardio in one workout but time will tell. ; )

The cardio is intense and fun i like the 2 girls in back.
Im enjoying it and for sure will do that one often once the 7 days are over,
My hamstrungs were on fire the day after but I was able to kick butt again tonight!
    Great buy!
With my hrm on i burned around 300-310 in cardio part.
  • I, too, have always heard strength before cardio. But I heard it's recommended that way because studies say you don't start to burn fat until about 15 minutes in, so for the best burn, get those 15 in with strength, and then REALLY burn with your cardio. I did that when I first started a running program, and firmed up pretty quickly. Did the formula work? or was it just the running... all I know is--I could barely lift my water afterwards, much less weights! haha

No offence intended - for anyone getting into resistance based training, Jillian's shred is not easy for the initial days. If anyone disagree - let's agree to disagree :)
