When people say they want to lower their body fat percentage, is this just another way of saying losing fat? From what I've read the only tips I can find are e.g eat healthy at a deficit, exercise, so I presume they mean the same thing?

Basically, yes. Fat loss/ lowering for BF% is generally what people mean when they say they "want to lose weight". Most fad/ quicky diets will help you lose weight, but if half of it is muscle, well, that's just not nearly as healthy/ desirable.

And BF% is a better indicator for some, especially people who lift or are pro athletes. According to their BMI, Lebron James and Arnold Schwarzenegger are technically morbidly obese. Obviously not a great indicator for them. LOL

It means losing fat &/or increasing lean body mass (aka adding muscle).
