Found this through another forum and I thought it was cool. Sorry for the long linky, blame mfp...
It lets you track various measurable indices of life quality for the past 200 years (they don't have the same amount of data for all years though).

Cliffs:
- developing countries today are doing better (at worst, comparably) to developed countries 100 years ago
- for all countries, there has been a largely uninterrupted increase in prosperity and health
- we're all very lucky *kitten* to have been born when we were born
