I just got confirmation (after a year of going to the dr w/o answers:grumble: ) that I have hypothyroid. Now I'm asking for advice and help from everyone who has had to deal with this. What foods are ok, what will help, what do I have to avoid (and what can i fudge once in a while:blushing: ). I hope to hear back from my dr with more info, but for now all I have is that I was right, my thyroid test was low. Thank you in advance to everyone who offers advice/help. :flowerforyou:

Hi I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism six years ago. I take Synthroid as opposed to Levothyroxine, because for some reason the Generic wasn't making a difference. As for your diet, well there is no such thing as a "hypothyroid diet" eat healthy and exercise. Take your medication every morning one hour before you eat ANYTHING. Once your medication is stable to where you need it you will notice that you are less tired and weight sort of falls off. I lost thirty pounds when I first started my medication after they got the levels right. They came off much easier then before.

I'm glad your doctor finally gave you an answer. Your life will be much better now. :) Take Care!

I have something similar called Polycystic Ovarian syndrome. Get to know the low glycemic index diet and low glycemic index foods, which will help you to stabilize your insulin levels. In the research I have done that is the kind of diet that is recommended for people with our kind of illnesses. Also look into herbal supplements from Lorna Vanderhaeghe who designed supplements for thyroid and other adrenal/hormonal problems affecting women.
