I have had back and joint pain for a long time due to playing softball for so many years. I got rear ended last week and my shoulder pain has gotten really bad. It like starts out in my shoulder and goes down through my rib cage. It's not really a sore pain, it's more like a gnawing sharp ache. Does this sound like a pinched nerve? Has anyone ever had a pain like this in their back and rib cage?

I have had a trapped nerve behind my right shoulder blade. It is when a nerve gets trapped behind muscle.
I don't think that is what you have because mine hurt like hell, a sharp stabbing pain that stopped me moving my right arm or turning me head. The slightest shoulder movement made me cry. I couldn't drive or anything.

Sorry I can't tell you what is wrong, but be grateful it's not a trapped nerve.
I would go and see your doctor.
  • My mum had a trapped nerve, and some other stuff. Put it this way, you'd know if it was a trapped nerve. My mum used all the gas and air in a&e!!

It does really bad when I turn my neck and is very sharp. I'm going to the chiropractor this afternoon. It hurts so bad I feel like I may throw up sometimes. :/

I sometimes get them in my shoulders after a day of using a pick ax. It makes my hands go numb so I am luck there. Sometimes I can get it to free up a little by hanging on a pull up bar and twisting. Usually it goes away if I start working.

Might be a trigger point. What did the chiro say? A tennis ball massage may feel good. Put one between you and a wall and roll away.
