Trimming down and trying to beat genetics

I'm in my early 30s and I'm trying to slim up and get healthy. I'm recovering from a knee injury and while the knee feels good, running so far has been pretty depressing. I'm panting like a dying thing and I used to run some pretty long distances. Not to mention I'm apaprently prediabetic now. Yay. Whelp, motivation I guess. Plus I need to be in a slinky dress in a month and a bathing suit in July. I guess I need all the support I can get.

It is going to take some time to get back to your pre-injury condition so take it easy on yourself. Do you think you should start back walking then work your way up to running? Are you logging your food and activities along with your water intake? You can do this!
  • Hi, I just joined this site today! I know that swimming is a great way to work around an injury and help the healing process. Even just water walking can burn some serious calories. I may be biased, I'm a swimmer :D
  • Definitely all good ideas. I've been doing some walking prior to this but gained about 20 pounds using the knee as an excuse for not doing more. Plus Im walk-jogging right now and going deathly slow. :) thanks for the encouragement!

Are you doing anything other than running?
  • Im counting calories, trying to more eat whole foods, avoiding refined sugar and alcohol (at least for right now until I can control myself a little around a delicious Reds apple Ale ;) ) and drinking tons of water. Just started the running. Prob not ready to add other workouts just yet.
  • Good morning! Like you jabbruz, I am recovering from an injury (hip and knee) and have gained 25lbs which I would like to lose some of it by the summer. I've completed all my physical therapy and got the go-ahead to return to full activities a couple of months ago. However, finding my motivation was the problem! So, here I am today, determined to make that change.

I'm looking for some motivated friends to help me on my journey; and I want to be a motivator too :) I will be logging my food/exercise and will keep my diary open. I am open to any kind of feedback or suggestions too.
