How Many Calories Are Too Few?

Hey Everyone!

I've only been using myfitnesspal for 4 days. My recommended amount of Calories per day is 1200 if I want to loose 1 lb per week. I've always heard 1lb/week is the farthest you can go before it gets unhealthy, but 1200 seems like it's borderline unhealthy. Does myfitnesspal tell you when you've gone too far? I never get too hungry from only 1200 Calories, but I've already lost 2 lbs, and I'm not sure if it's just an initial spike or if I need to start eating more.

MFP will not tell you to go below 1200, so even if your goal had you under that it will go to 1200 as a minimum.

for a small person 1200 is absolutely fine, especially if you don't feel hungry.

It is set up so your calories will not be under 1200 calories. Depending on your age height weight and activity then it may be set up right. Also if your working out you have to take into concideration of the extra burn. Yes is is bad to go under 1200 calories and not safe because your body can go into survial mode and store body fat and feed off any lean muscle you have

Hey, I am a 1200 cal a day person too. I did manually change the setting to allow me 1300 a day. I just couldn't do 1200. I do make sure that I exercise regularly since that will give me back some calories so that I can eat more. I often joke with friends that I exercise so I can eat... that really isn't 100% true, I love my forming muscles too! :) The key is to just pick high density foods that are low in calories... fruits and veggies. Lean protein, or protein from other sources.. beans, nuts (just watch the servng size). and find some low cal snacks that really do satisfy... I love the 100 cal bags of kettle corn. Of course I have my days when I just can't do it! I agree 1200 is hard, but it is within a healthy range... good luck!
