Is anyone else doing the high protein diet?

I was in a severe accident 2 years ago and broke my neck. Being in a halo for 4 months I packed on a ton of weight and it just kept coming even after it was off.

I went in to see my doctor crying my eyes out and she put me on a new high protein diet along with Phentermine. It has been 10 days and I have lost 10 pounds so far. I have 40 more to go.

My question is has anyone ever done this diet? I am starting to get bored with my choice of foods at dinner:(

How much protein are you eating? What is your allowance for carbs and fats? What has she recommended for your daily calorie intake?

I'm now on around 156g of protein every day - which is about the maximum beneficial for someone of my weight - having more is no problem however.

Note that starting a calorie deficit and especially going on to low-carb tends to lead to high initial losses from water - afraid they shouldn't continue.

How high of protein is this diet? There are plenty of ways to get protein in your diet if your not opposed to meat and beans.
  • On the diet she put me on we are not allowed any beans. I drink a high protein shake for breakfast, 2 cups of veggies for lunch with a high protein bar and then 2 cups of veggies along with 8 ounces of protein for dinner. I drink a Muscle Milk Lite a couple of hours before I go to bed. So far it seems to be working but it is getting a little boring:(

Oh my, no wonder you're bored! Have you asked your Dr why you can't eat actual food instead of shakes and protein bars? Maybe there's a medical reason but...sounds kinda like a recipe for failure. No one can sustain that for very long without being very unhappy (and therefore likely to "cheat".)

Since you are working with your doctor don't change anything until you run it by them.

You can easily switch up your foods tho, just look at high protein sources and fit them into your day. If you look at my diary you wouldn't know I'm losing weight and getting 100 g of protien a day since I eat whatever I'm craving.

    Good luck
  • A high protein diet just makes you satiated for longer.

However, what your doctor is doing is providing you protein through shakes and trying to get you full with veges.

Essentially, you can eat your protein. Have a nice lean steak, go for chicken or better yet, turkey breast. Have lots of veges. Think about how much you weigh and times that by 0.8 and that's how many grams of protein you should be hitting per day. Eat the rest in fats and veges.

Your doctor said no beans because they are high in carbs.

without a specific medical reason for this diet, it sounds to me like your doc doesn't know what she's talking about and has just given you some fad diet to follow. the phentermine is the tipoff to me.

you can lose weight without drugs and while eating the foods you like just by following an IIFYM approach to weight loss and nutrition.
