Question About New Routine

I started working out again after a LOOOONG time. For the first 4 days, I rode a stationary bike, starting at 20 minutes and adding minutes every day. Then, using the circuit set up, building up weight and reps. After each of those days, I had more energy and felt good. I'd be a bit sore the next morning, but nothing I couldn't work through. Day 5, I had an eval with a personal trainer. She put me through a "basic, core strengthening starting routine." I was very dizzy and felt generally yucky afterward; just wanted to take a nap afterward. Two days later I am still in some pain.

All that background, for my question: Do I continue the bike/circuit routine, increasing resistance/speed and weight/reps until I am in better shape, THEN start incorporating the routine from the trainer OR do I man up, accept the strain. I want to do what is best, but I am honestly not sure which route to go.

Did you hire the trainer or did the trainer just put together programming for you? Did you happen to ask the trainer?

I would start the routine the trainer gave you first and then if you like incorporate some of the other stuff back in. Chances are that the program the trainer gave you is in line with your goals and hopefully more efficient than what you put together on your own.

The first time doing something new at the gym is always pretty painful for the next couple days. The human body is pretty amazing though and adapts to stress (exercise is a form of stress) pretty quickly. I'd say keep doing the routine the trainer gave you. It'll get better and you won't get as sore the more you do it
