Wrist weights in leiu of hand weights?

Do they have the same effect? I ask bc I have a long standing wrist issue in which hand weights aggravate it, but the wrist weights do not. Do you know if they have virtually the same effect?

How heavy are we talking? When I think of wrist weights, I think of light weight ones (3 pounds maybe?).
If the weights are that light ....then wrist weights & dumbbells will have virtually the same effect.....which is to say very little effect. I would look into some kind of wrist supports. Even body weight exercises (push ups) will be more effective than light weights.
I do use light weights while walking.....but this just helps keep my heart rate up. It doesn't really "tone" anything up.0
