Aches and Pains

I worked out for the first time on Saturday in a long time. (I did JM 30 day shred, level 1) My legs are screaming at me today. They hurt worse today then yesterday. I've taken Advil, but that doesn't seem to have helped. Does anyone have something they found that works that ease the aces and pains from a workout? My poor little muscles aren't used to what I put them through anymore! :( Though it's a good type of ache. (If that is possible!)

Be as active as you can - don't spend today on the couch trying not to move. That'll compound the soreness. If you're stuck at a desk, try to get up and walk around the room every 20 minutes or so just to stretch them out.

If you plan to lift on a regular basis, I would invest in two things, (1) a foam roller, and (2) rubber band for stretching. Stretching pre and post workout is very important to muscle recovery. Working not just the muscle area you worked on but the supporting muscles as well, hip flexors, glutes, and more. Look up "couch stretch" on you tube and other "CrossFit stretches". CrossFit does a lot of Olympic lifts and provides good pre and post workout stretch advice. I also am an advocate of taking daily fish oil, 2x's a day, everyday. It aids in recovery. Drink plenty of water and don't over do it in the beginning. Form is more important then volume and weight. Practice good lifting mechanics so you don't get hurt. And finally, soreness is normal if your just getting back into the swing, if you can make it 2 weeks it will likely be less and less as your body adjusts to the lifting.

I work in an office so I am at a desk all day. I was getting up a lot though today as I'm trying to get in 8 cups of water again and I had to keep making trips to the ladies room!

Muscles are feeling better tonight after my workout.

It will get better. Massage gently, stretch, and don't give up. It goes away.

When you exercise, you get lactic acid in your muscles. To work this out, you need to exercise, after a nights rest of course.

In my experience, soreness after workouts lessens considerably when you work the same muscles regularly (assuming adequate rest and nutrition, of course).

The right leg is feeling lots better today. :) Left leg is a different story. :( It's feeling stiff today. It was feeling somewhat loose after walking to the bus stop (my stop is about a 6-7 minute walk away), however, when I got up to get off the bus at my stop it was feeling stiff again. I might be doing a lot of little walks around my office today. (I work for two men, there's no one here to question what I am do!)
