It's a blood test ordered by your physician. I buy my supplement on Amazon.0

Save your money and just go outside everyday for a few minutes if you can. 15-20 minutes of sunlight exposure generates adequate amounts of vitamin D in your skin. This is also a more bioavailable form of vitamin D than that found in supplements.0

Vitamin D deficiency is fairly common and has implications for osteoporosis further down the track if not corrected.
If you get enough by being in the sunshine that's great - but I would'nt be concerned about saving money by not taking supplements (if your levels are low and supplements are warranted)
Vit D supplements are not expensive - in Australia under $20 for 250 tablets - ie over 6 months supply.0 -
4000 IU Vit-D spray took me from an insufficiency to a decent level in a couple of months. I'm too far North for the sun to do the job in the winter months.
I had a test done by mail, I'm in the UK so the lab wouldn't be much use to you.0 -
My MD tested it last time I had blood drawn. Turns out I was wicked-deficent, so she's got me on a supplement. I buy the Nature Made brand at the grocery store.0

For most people being Vit D low is a problem.
You can get a blood test from your Dr. I have mine checked because I am very low.
Normal is at least 30. Mine is 12.3. So needless to say I am on a massive dose for 3 months. I have to take 50,000 IU twice a week for 3 months.
Going outside for a few min. is not enough. There are other factors that play into how well you absorb Vit D. Skin color and weight being 2 of them.0
