Raining, very cold, and running

So Saturday is supposed to be very lousy out. And I gotta do 26.2 miles. I never run outside when it's crappy out, I stick to the dread mill, or get in a different workout. What do I wear? My feet are going to be wet and frozen. I'm thinking maybe a poncho over my regular cold weather running clothes? And bring a change of socks for every few miles?

Here's to hoping the weather changes.

How cold are we talking? Wind too? I ask because temperature is relative - Florida cold is different than my definition of cold ;)

Without knowing anything else, I'd say LS tech with SS tech over it, a trashbag poncho over that for as long as you can tolerate it, and running shorts. Regular ol' running socks that wick moisture will take care of your feet. I've done wet/soggy trails with running socks and came out ok w/no blisters. The more stuff you wear, the more you absorb the drink and be all clammy.

This is going to sound naggy, but this is why you should train in all the elements

This is a glowing example of why we train outside in all conditions.

Advice? Don't over dress. Make sure you clothes are wicking, you will still sweat. Shorts are the way to go if it's not too, too cold. you don't want anything sticking to your legs. Use lots and lots of body glide. Make sure you have a compression top base layer to prevent chafing as much as possible.

You are going to get wet. Have fun with it.

I revise my statement to say "nothing with long sleeves" seeing as 40 is the tropics to lots of people this year :)

I'd go with shorts, a short sleeve compression top and gloves. Probably a hat too. My ears get cold.

What you wear really depends on your pace (the faster you are going, the less you would wear). But if you don't like the cold you are probably going to want a raincoat (preferably one with lots of zippers to vent if necessary). Then wear a compression base layer (I'd suggest long sleeves), plus gloves and a hat that covers your ears. I like compression tights but not everyone does. Rather than a change of socks just make sure you are wearing warm, non-cotton socks. Wear two pairs if you don't have anything especially warm.

Dress 15 degrees above the estimated temp. So you should dress for about 55's because once you get running, your body will heat up. Good running wicking socks should do a great job. I wore them all winter in the snow and never had a blister no matter how bad the storms got!

If you didn't want to wear shorts, I would definitely avoid any pants with extra material going over your sneakers, you'll be soaked with extra weight.

Maybe try a hat with a brim that you can throw ear warmers over to keep your head warm and rain out of your eyes?

    Good luck!!!

<I have nothing-Live in Florida and hate running in rain or cold. Haven't had to run in both>

    Best wishes!
