Great news for you, well done, encouraging to me. I have used APAP for three years. full face mask since I always have trouble breathing through nasal passages. Started with AHI = 66, unknown now. My pressures have dropped after losing about 30 pounds, from 18 maximum to 14 maximum, and I am sleeping better. Still cannot sleep without it.

But I have a lot more weight to loose so thanks for the motivation!

Good to hear. Well done. Part of the reason for my weight loss is to avoid the dreaded CPAP. Unfortunately for me, I CANNOT sleep with a machine pumping air into me. So it was either surgery, weight loss, or possibly die from an enlarged heart. I chose weight loss and hope that one day I can kick the snoring/stopped breathing so I can rejoin my wife in bed :frown:
  • Im so happy for you! Wow what a story! So inspirational

Congrats! I hope I can stop using mine someday. If not, that's okay. The guy who reads my card uses one still and he hasn't an inch of fat on him. He said I'd probably use it the rest of my life.

My neck is 16'' and I'm 276 lbs. I was diagnosed last year at 320lb. and don't know my reading, but my pressure was set at 12. Did you have any hallucinations? I've had lots of them before getting my CPAP.
I'd snore so loud that neighbors couldn't sleep.

I never knew I had sleep apnea until I ended up in the hospital 3 years ago. My daughter stayed with me and told me that she SAW that I stopped breathing when I slept. I have never and didn't snore. I had the testing done and sure enuf, sleep apnea. I had 33 episodes per minute and my blood oxygen levels would drop to the low 80's. I was immediately put on the machine. Since that time, I've lost significant weight. Just last week, I saw my pulmonary doctor. They downloaded the report, and sure enuf ... NO episodes!!! So, I was able to get rid of the machine complete. All due to weight loss. I knew something was different for the last few months becuz I too had the dry mouth and I would wake up becuz I was constantly adjusting the nose pads. Evidently I was doing it becuz it wasn't fitting correctly anymore. Anyway, to be free of the machine is absolutely wonderful. I'm NEVER going back there again.

I agree re the nech size drop. I never got as far as using a CPAP but I was suffering from sleep apnea. My neck size is down from nearly 18" to 15.5" and sleep apnea has stopped and snoring has stopped although I still use a nasal device to improve my breathing during sleep.

well done on the weight loss

I've been using my CPAP for 6 years now. I love how much more rested I am. It will probably be a while before I can consider stopping it because I was 280 lbs. when I was diagnosed and I'm 315.6 lbs. now. :grumble: I have lost 21 lbs.from my highest weight. Congrats to you for getting healthier!:drinker:

Congrats! I stopped using my CPAP after I lost my first 100lbs. I still need to lose another, but I don't wake up gasping for breath as if I am drowning anymore. After my first sleep study, my doctor said my levels were so low, I could have had a stroke at anytime. Great job!
