Eating at a deficit and gaining!!!

Nope. You aren't. It is literally impossible to gain weight while eating a deficit - you simply can't be burning more energy than you're consuming AND gaining weight. It would be like starting the day with half a tank of gas, driving around all day and ending up with a full tank of gas. That's not how physics works in our universe.
However, there are a few reasons why you might *think* you're gaining while eating at a deficit:
1. You're eating more than you think. This is the most common reason - unless you're weighing and logging everything that enters your mouth, this is the most likely culprit. Little things like sneaking an extra bite or two of food, not recording a chocolate bar here or there, having late night binges, nutrition labels being wrong and more can add up big time.
2. You're burning less than you think. On top of the fact that everyone is different, there are loads of medical conditions, pills, etc. which can affect your metabolism. If you think this is the reason, go see your doctor and get some blood work done to see if you have something like hypothyroidism. You could also be overestimating exercise calories and think you're creating a deficit when you really aren't.
3. You're carrying around more water weight or you just ate a big meal and haven't pooped it out yet. This is just temporary weight gain, not permanent, so just try to weigh yourself under the same conditions every time to avoid this issue.
4. You actually broke the laws of physics and found a way to gain weight while eating at a deficit. Please go see your nearest scientist, he will be happy to confirm your diagnosis and win a Nobel prize studying your amazing feat.
